By Anthony on 2011-10-24 (Mon) 20:31

Any one know any decent clubs around the Tachikawa, Kunitachi, Kokubunji areas? Preferably foreigner friendly, though Japanese only could be fine if theres one reasonable English speaker...

Thanks alot,

Anthony

Sorry, don't know the area well enough to give precise details. But we've got 12 clubs listed for Tokyo, 3 of which are on US bases - so plenty of English speakers

Looking for places.
By Adam on 2011-09-04 (Sun) 22:07

Hello! I've started getting in to warhammer fantasy recently, I bought the tomb king battalion online as well as a few generals but here is the problem. The games workshop in Omiya has shut down recently and so I have no where else to go :(

In other words I'm looking for a new place to duke it out with my new shiny tomb kings, I've been in Japan for a while now so my Japanese is so-so but it would be nice if someone could speak a lil' English since I'm still totally new to the game =).
I heard they opened up a new GW in Koshigaya Laketown? I mght have to go and check that one out.

Thanks in Advance~

Try the Black Beard Bandits club. Says on their club site (http://black.ap.teacup.com/higeoyaji/) that they used to meet at the GW Omiya store.

Looks like their next event (left margin of their site) is on Sep 25th at the Yonohonmachi Community Centre in Chuo-ku of Saitama city, from 9am til 4pm. After some searching, I found their email address too: team_bandits at auone.jp. They ask that people label emails 'clubteam' (in katakana) for the email subject - presumably to weed out junk.

Good luck with the tomb kings!!

The page listing clubs and shops is here:
http://www.atouchoftensai.com/wargames/database-search.php?Location=tokyo

There are loads of places to play and game, but perhaps the first place to start would be one of the GW Hobby Centres (shops). They often have foreign players or English-speaking players in there, and they should be able to point you towards local clubs.

By David on 2010-10-14 (Thu) 21:10

I am in the US Navy and just got stationed here. I am looking for stores or Clubs near or in Yokohama. I play mostley 40k, and fantasy but am more than willing to play other games.I have many armies so just ask. I also have my own table and alot of hills for scenery. The page listing clubs and shops is here:
http://www.atouchoftensai.com/wargames/database-search.php?Location=kanagawa

The first two are clubs (Grognards, run by Kevin Burns - also to be found on Yahoo JIGG group, and Chaos Heidi).

Then there are 11 stores in Kanagawa; mostly in Yokohama city or Kawasaki city. Sorry, the addresses are in Japanese, but several have links to sites which will have maps on them. Good luck!

David様 へ Graveyards と Goblins
By デイミ on 2009-01-08 (Thu) 20:32

Loving the new graveyard/well terrain pieces and previously the photos of your goblin army. I was wondering if there was any chance of seeing your whole Goblin Army in a single big photo. I keep seeing units and units popping up (and it has really sparked my curiousity) but it would be cool to see the whole lot a la the photos from the Army books.

Re: David様 へ Graveyards と Goblins
By David on 2009-01-08 (Thu) 22:13

Cheers! I'd never seen the graveyard terrain model before, but apparently it was sold in the US a few years back. Hurrah for Ebay, eh? Quick lick of paint - and it's a lovely atmospheric piece.

The goblin and orc army isn't quite finished yet, but it's getting pretty close. About 6 more units, and then the warboss on a wyvern, and I can call it 'done'! I'll post photos as soon as it's all finished, but I've never actually fielded them all together - or even displayed them together!

Oh yes - you find some wonderful and weird things on e-bay and i oft trawl through. Found some very cool pieces of model scenery by such companies as grenadier (from back in the 80's). The graveyard is quite a gem i must say. Oh well... I will look forward to seeing your Orc & Gobbo army in the immediate future and especially the General on his Wyvern (one of the more cool looking beasts in Warhammer in my opinion).

Re: David様 へ Graveyards と Goblins
By David on 2009-01-15 (Thu) 19:00

The base is just white clay on top of polystyrene with a light sprinkle of GW snow flock. The dots of snow on the stonework and woodwork is 50:50 white emulsion (household paint) and PVA glue, with again snow flock sprinkled on top.

If you want to see how it was made, go to www.atouchoftensai.com/club and look in the 'Projects' section.

New to Japan, looking for a club

Hi,

I'm a 40k player, moving to the Fuji/Shizuoka area of Japan for a few months from tomorrow, hoping to find some English-speaking gamers for a few friendly games. Could anyone suggest any clubs, or individuals, in the area who'd be interested?

Many thanks!

I am living in Chiba south of Tokyo so I just do a bit in the immediate area. You are based in and around Kitakyushu I presume from your clubs adrress 'KitaQ'. I used to live in Kyushu (Saga) but did not know about your club at the time. Thed photos of your gaming room are outstanding as are YOUR models as i you ought to know. I am still a bit of a novice but practicing my painting and modelling when i get chance. I recently made a complete version of the old Games Workshop game DARK FUTURE and I have been making vehicles for that but impossible to find an opponent for that as I am sure you'll understand.

thank you for your e-mail,

Nah, your conversions are cool! I think it's all in the photos anyway - I mean, some of my models look crap in real life, but the photos turned out great. Lightboxes work well, just to make the shots as bright as possible (but I made one for work anyway).
Saga, huh? Pity we never met up, but our club (yes, it's Kitakyushu/Fukuoka) has only really taken off properly this last year anyway.
I remember Dark Future! Just before I started the hobby - so good luck trying to find players. Do you game with one of the Tokyo clubs?

Thank you. Changing models is very satisfying... rare i paint one straight. As for games I just manage to rope in the odd collegue or friend for the occasional game of this or that. Got a backlog of models so that is happily absorbing all my time. I have not checked the local club section properly so ought to find one but busy time of year work-wise so come to that soon. Any recommendations?

Buying Games and Miniatures in Fukuoka
By Mike Ebertz on 2008-07-16 (Wed) 17:43

I am a long-time miniature gamer. I can't buy anything in Korea, but I am taking a short vacation in Fukuoka. Any idea where I can get wargames such as Warhammer and FantasyFlight products? I know where I can buy paint supplies as I've been there twice before and got lucky. Also, I will be there for 3 nights at the beginning of August, so I need to figure this component of my trip out. The eating good food part is already a done deal.

Thanks

Tomb Kings ready for Armybuilder
By David on 2007-10-02 (Tue) 00:07

It's been a long wait - but hey - they've got all eternity, right?

What's that shuffling sound? ... Getting dark all of a sudden, eh? ... Is that smell you?! ...

That's right, the Tomb Kings have finally made it into armybuilder. Not many more armies to go now to make the whole set, so keep on voting - once one has got a clear lead in the poll, that'll be the one to do next!

If you spot the inevitable mistakes in the Tomb Kings list, please drop us a line. Otherwise, enjoy!

A couple of problems
By Mads Ingwar on 2007-08-15 (Wed) 08:57

Some equipment options does not seem to have a "remove" link, meaning that I can't get rid of them again! I have seen this with the BSB upgrade for Black Orcs and with Bow, Spears and Choppas for Savage Boys.

Furthermore it seem that a Black Orc BSB takes 2 Hero choices?!

David's icon
Re: A couple of problems
By David on 2007-08-16 (Thu) 13:30

Yep, sorry. Only options such as character mounts, standards, musicians, champions, elite upgrades (Big'Uns etc), and magic items can be removed once they've been added. Weapon and armour options cannot be removed once they've been purchased - the system is very, very complicated as it is, calculating armour modifiers and replacing standard wepaons with upgrades and recalculating points values and so on, and quite honestly it wasn't worth the extra work. Just add those options last, or delete the unit and add another.

With the extra Hero slots for Black Orcs... thanks, it was something from the previous army book which I'd forgotten to update. All fixed now!

?'s icon
Re: A couple of problems
By ? on 2007-08-30 (Thu) 23:32

While we're at it, another orc-problem. The chariots doesn't cost special slots when taken as a mount by a character, they are just normal mounts instead (this is only orcs and golbins!). Shouldn't be to hard to fix.

David's icon
Re: A couple of problems
By David on 2007-08-31 (Fri) 11:19

I was just about to ask for somebody else to confirm this change from 6th edition rules for Orcs, but then I thought to check the GW errata pages. Lo! and Behold! There it is, in black and white; unlike other armies, they are bought exactly like monstrous mounts.

So... after some thought, I'll be adding them simply as monstrous mount options for characters - so only one chariot profile will be shown, rather than boars and drivers. Be doing that ASAP!

David's icon
Re: A couple of problems
By David on 2007-08-31 (Fri) 11:53

Uurgh.... I'd forgotten just how many lords and heroes were entitled to ride chariots. Think I got them all - let me know if I missed any!

Since the army book doesn't specifically limit Chariots to Black Orcs and Orcs only as mounts, I left the chariot option available to Savage Orcs too. Doesn't seem to fit right, in my mind, but well hey....

Lizardmen Arrive!
By David on 2007-08-10 (Fri) 12:14

Finally... the Lizardmen have made it in to the Armybuilder! My goodness, those scared spawnings really did make life difficult - grrrr.

Note that the Fourth to Second Generations of Slann Mage-Priests have been included for points values only, but you'll need to bear in mind the extra rules yourselves (extra hero slots, etc). It just didn't seem worth the extra trouble... I mean, if you don't know the rules for these hugely powerful generations, the Gods of the Old Ones are hardly going to judge you worthy, are they?!

Unit slot update
By Anthony on 2007-02-14 (Wed) 23:37

I've work out the problem (sorry for the double message); the unit slots correct themselves after you've added the unit. So, if you want to bolt throwers and have two slots, you can get them and they'll only take up one slot.

However, if you only have 1 slot, it will say that the second bolt thrower is unavailable due to restrictions.

This is a problem for great eagles, and presumably all the other two-for-one units (chariots, and other races' bolt throwers).

Anthony.

David's icon
Re: Unit slot update
By David on 2007-02-15 (Thu) 00:03

But there is an easy solution... don't take doubled items like bolt-throwers as your last available slot. For example, take two bolt-throwers as one rare slot BEFORE you take anything else as a rare selection. If you only have one Rare slot to start with, just jump to the Settings page and switch off the 'unit selection restrictions', grab your rare choices, and then switch restrictions back on again.

Thanks for the kind words, by the way!

Anthony's icon
Re: Unit slot update
By Anthony on 2007-02-16 (Fri) 03:46

I had thought of that. The problem came up in armies of <2000pts, where you had Only 1 rare slot; similarly in a 2000pts battle if you want to use both slots of bolt throwers/eagles.

Thanks for replying so soon!

Anthony

David's icon
Re: Unit slot update

High Elf Bolt Thrower
By Anthony on 2007-02-14 (Wed) 23:31

I noticed someone had a problem with dwarf bolt throwers, which has been fixed. However, I'm having the same problem with high elf ones - they are counting as a rare slot each instead of two to a rare slot.

I don't know whether the Dark elves have the same problem, but that might be worth looking into to.

May I also add well done; this is a brilliant army builder (and I rarely use them).

Anthony
